Job Search 101

Job search 101

Searching for a job can be very stressful.  There are hundreds and sometimes thousands of hopefuls applying for one particular position. Only a quarter of that numbers will be shortlisted and get a call back for an interview. After that, only one person will miraculously get hired.  Below are the 101 of finding a job, which I found very effective.

Tip #1
In applying for a job, DO NOT RELY ON JOB SITES AND ADVERTISEMENTS ALONE.  Narrow down the competition through canvassing. How to do a canvassing?  You can find all the resources for job canvassing in the comfort of your own home. Below are the techniques:

1. Google it.  Using the correct keyword, search for the companies that is related to your field of expertise.  Type in the keyword on the Google toolbar and click search.

For example, if you want to be a teacher in a registered training organisation (RTO) or vocational education and training (VET); your keywords will be registered training organisation in ( name of the place).

If I type in these keywords: REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION GOLD COAST, QLD on the Google toolbar.   The results will include these:

Click in more results and it will show you the website of all RTOs.  Click on their websites and click the part that says employment at (name of the company). Then search for the email address of the contact person and submit your application.

Believe me this is very effective.  I just got hired using this technique.  Using this job search method will surely narrow down the competition because if the company received an application that suits their needs; it will save them money, time and effort. And good thing for you as an applicant.

So, if you're a nurse, pathologist, etc. that is looking for a job; type in the keywords HOSPITALS IN (PLACE). If you have a qualification in childcare type in the keywords CHILDCARE CENTRES IN (PLACE).

3.  Send your resumes by post or email.

4.  Continue sending your resumes.  And you'll be surprised someone will get back to you.  Believe me, I got a 100% hiring percentage in all solicit applications compared to jobs posted on ads.
